story time Just thought I’d share one of my children’s stories to give you something different to read, so here goes, STORY TYME!

Mandy & Sandy’s Exploits

“The Candy Trial”

M: Hey! What have we here? Can it be, someone left some candy — for me! It has to be… Everyone knows I can’t resist it, so they wouldn’t leave it out here, so defenseless, by itself. I’m sure it was meant for me, soooo…. (takes the candy) Thank you, Lord! Yum Yum! (Then Mandy leaves and Sandy appears)

S: (singing) “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…” Whoa! What gives here? Where did my candy go? I left it for just a minute. Say, boys and girls, did you see anybody take some candy? (children tell her Mandy took it)

No! He wouldn’t do that! Are you sure? (Children assure her that Mandy did take the candy)

BOY is he in trouble! Mom and Dad have told him at least a hundred times not to take things that don’t belong to him. MANDY! Come up here, right now! You hear me? Riiii…ght now!

M: (mumbling like he has something in his mouth) I’m coming, I’m coming! (Loud swallow sound) Keep your shirt on, Sandy. What’s the problem?

S: Did you “find” some candy up here?

M: Yeah! Isn’t God good to have someone leave me some candy? Boy was it good!

S: What! You ate it?! How could you?!

M: Well that was easy. I just took the paper off and popped it into my mouth and chewed and swallowed.

S: OoooooH! I don’t believe I’m hearing this. It wasn’t God who left that candy there, it was ME!

M: Hey, thanks Sandy that sure was nice…

S: (angrily) I wasn’t trying to be nice and it wasn’t for you! I was in a hurry to get something and laid that candy down for just one minute and the candy thief of the century hits again. Boy are you in trouble. Wait until I tell Mom and Dad.

M: Oh, no! This can’t be happening. Not again! I’ve been so good for so long, I just thought for sure God had told someone to leave that candy for me. It was just laying there all by its lonesome, just needing someone like me to eat it.

S: Now let me get this straight! You thought that just because a piece of candy was laying there it must belong to you?

M: Well, yeah.

S: Didn’t you remember what Mom and Dad told you last time?

M: You mean “Before you take anything, Mandy, ask around and make sure it doesn’t belong to anyone else.”?

S: Exactly!

M: Nope! I didn’t remember.

S: Mandy, you’ve got to have a thousand holes in your head. Everything important leaks out before it does you any good.

M: I guess so.

S: Don’t you remember Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.”

M: Uh, sorta. I guess.

S: Well, Mom and Dad said you were to ALWAYS check with them if you didn’t know for sure that something you found could be claimed to be yours. You didn’t obey. You’re in a “lot of hot”, water that is.

M: Hey, Sandy, I do remember another verse from the Bible. Matthew 18:21 & 22, “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto you, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.”

S: How did you remember all that and not the short verse in Ephesians?

M: I guess because I need forgiving a lot, ’cause I have such a hard time obeying. Will you forgive me? I’ll replace the candy when I get my allowance — in, uh, let me see, Oh yeah, two weeks. OK?

S: Two weeks! How come so long?

M: Well, I owe Mom for that vase I broke running through the house. And I owe Johnny Britt for his desert that I accidentally ate when he wasn’t looking. And then,

S: Whoa! I get the picture. You sure do need a lot of forgiving, alright. I won’t tell Mom and Dad … THIS time. But you better start remembering or this “candy trial” will be small potatoes when they get a hold of you. Two weeks…no longer.

M: Hey, Sandy, you’re alright! Thanks for forgiving me. Oh, by the way, your candy sure was good! (Mandy ducks as Sandy swings at him)

S: Oh, Mandy, you rascal. It’s a good thing Jesus helps me love you. Bye boys and girls. See you next week!
